Seeing Double … Max McLaughlin and the No. 1 Mohawk Northeast team head to South Boston Speedway for one of the most unique events on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) schedule. Double features are on Saturday night’s card as “Mad Max” has two opportunities to be in contention. The WhosYourDriver.org Twin 100’s is the only event in 2019 that will feature two full points-paying races. McLaughlin sits 11th in the championship standings and looks to take advantage of two races at “SoBo” to claw his way into the championship conversation.
Finally, A Familiar Sight … For the first time in his brief pavement racing career, McLaughlin will race at a familiar track. South Boston Speedway was the second asphalt track that he competed at and returns for his first NKNPSE start at the 0.40-mile bullring with previous experience in his back pocket. “Mad Max” also recently gained a wealth of knowledge thanks to participating in a tire test for General Tire at Dover International Speedway in April. McLaughlin and his HRE team will look to capitalize on the additional laps and experience with two impactful finishes on Saturday night.
Mohawk Northeast … “Mad Max” will have longtime partners Mohawk Northeast on board for the second consecutive race at South Boston Speedway. Specializing in heavy construction and marine construction, as well as tugboat transportation, Mohawk Northeast, Inc. is a Connecticut-based construction company that offers its valued clients cost-effective, efficient solutions founded on engineering expertise. Our turnkey construction services also include facilities maintenance and fabrication and coating.
Chassis Selection … Crew chief Robert Huffman and the No. 1 team have prepared chassis No. 002 for McLaughlin to race in Saturday night’s Twin 100’s. “Mad Max” raced this Toyota Camry to an 11th-place finish in his debut at New Smyrna Speedway in February. Chassis No. 010 that he drove to a 13th-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway will serve as the backup.
Tune In … FansChoice.TV will have live coverage of Saturday’s Twin 100’s, starting with Race 1 at 7:00 pm. NBC Sports Network will air tape delayed coverage of Race 1 on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:00 p.m. ET and Race 2 on Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 p.m. ET. Max McLaughlin Quote:
On racing in relatively familiar territory at South Boston:
“It’ll be nice, for sure, to race at a place I’ve actually run before. It’s been quite a few years ago now since I raced a late model there, but laps are laps. I’m sure it’ll be a bit of a help to have some knowledge of the place before we get to practice. I felt like we made some progress in outright speed at Bristol from where we started at New Smyrna, so hopefully we can find a little more this weekend. It’s going to be a little different this weekend having two races in one night, but that just means there’s more points on the table on Saturday. We need to get ourselves a couple good finishes and start making some ground in the points.”
