Inching Closer … Max McLaughlin is gaining momentum and brings an impressive streak of results into round seven of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) at Iowa Speedway. The driver of the No. 1 Yazaki, Toyota Technical College Toyota Camry is coming off a fourth-place effort a week ago at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) and has constructed a string of four-consecutive finishes of sixth or better. “Mad Max” has also qualified on the front row in the last two outings and has positioned himself well for a bid at his first-career win on Friday in Iowa.
International Influence … For the eighth year, owner Shige Hattori and the HRE team have some extra assistance from six students from Toyota Technical College in Japan. Two students from each campus in Nagoya, Kobe, and Tokyo have been working at HRE’s shop in Mooresville, NC as well as receiving instruction and training at NASCAR Technical Institute over the last 10 days. The six-pack of students will join crew chief Robert Huffman and the No. 1 Yazaki, Toyota Technical College team at Iowa Speedway and will change tires on McLaughlin’s Camry during the competition caution on Friday night.
Season To Date … McLaughlin is in the midst of putting together an impressive debut season on asphalt. Through his first six races on asphalt in the NKNPSE, McLaughlin has racked up three top-five and four top-10 finishes. With half the season to go, “Mad Max” remains in the championship hunt, just 22 points out of the lead in fifth position.
Chassis Selection … This week’s contest featuring the East and West series together marks the first back-to-back stretch of races for McLaughlin and his team. Crew chief Robert Huffman and the Yazaki, DNP team are returning to the track with chassis No. 010. The No. 1 team quickly turned this Camry around after McLaughlin’s fourth-place finish at NHMS last Saturday evening.

Max McLaughlin Quote:
On racing back-to-back weeks:
“It’s really nice to be able to race for a few weeks in a row here. We were too free last week at New Hampshire and we’ve looked things over and should be better this week at Iowa. I definitely think we’re making progress and gaining on it. It’d be awesome to put this Yazaki Camry in victory lane, and especially this week so we could give the Toyota Technical College students the experience of a lifetime. It’s been cool having them around the shop and learning what we do. They don’t really have much experience around motorsports, so it’s been fun to see them experience everything. Hopefully we can send them off in style and really give them a night to remember.”
